Life Never Really Slows Down
I feel so gullible. I consider myself to be difficult to fool, but I couldn’t be more wrong. I actually started to believe that when certain circumstances happened, life would slow down. We recently hired a new staff member, and it was a massive relief. My daughters are starting up a new semester and have developed some good rhythms. My wife is settled into her new job. I have clarity in my values and priorities moving forward.
Yet life refuses to cooperate.
This is not a complaint. This is just how things go.
There’s always something else. A newfound work challenge. Teenage drama. A personal struggle that you didn’t see coming. Loved ones embracing challenges. Life keeps coming.
As the wise theologian Ferris Bueller once said:
As much as I want to lament and slide back into the false reality of a life that slows down, I know I need to return to the truth.
Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress
Psalm 46:10-11
God’s got this. He’s present. I can run to Him with confidence.
Life never really slows down, but that doesn’t mean I need to keep running.
